Trip No.1

Scavenger hunt

Illustration of the CAP SAN DIEGO

27

People

Duration: 2.5 hours

How it works

As a family team you solve puzzles together on our scavenger hunt aboard the CAP SAN DIEGO!

What is the scavenger hunt?

The scavenger hunt is a treasure hunt across the entire ship. Along the way you also use items that our game masters hand you on site. You will also need at least one mobile phone in your group.

Number of players

As a family you can play together with up to 7 people.

More things to do on board

After the scavenger hunt you can enjoy a picnic on the pool deck of the CAP SAN DIEGO. The pool deck is on the very top deck (if you see a real pool, you are in the right place – though swimming in it is unfortunately not allowed). There are plenty of tables and chairs around the pool, and you get a wonderful view of Hamburg harbour. The area is outdoors but covered, so it can be used from spring to autumn even in bad weather.

Duration

The scavenger hunt takes about 1.5 hours. You should plan another hour for the picnic. All in all, you will be aboard with us for around 2.5 hours.

Cost

The scavenger hunt costs €17 per person (incl. VAT). Using the pool deck for your picnic is free for you as our guests.

Trip No.2

Escape Room

Illustration of the CAP SAN DIEGO

57

People

Duration: 4 hours

How it works

As a family you play together in an escape room aboard the CAP SAN DIEGO (approx. 1 to 1.25 hours). Young and old solve puzzles side by side.

Suitable rooms

We actually designed all our escape rooms for adults, but some are also suitable for younger players:
For children from age 8, our escape rooms “The Master of Time” and “The Golden Skull” are suitable.
Teenagers from age 14 can also play the escape room “The Forbidden Game”.

Number of players

In one escape room you can play with up to 7 people. If there are more of you, simply book several escape rooms.

More things to do on board

In addition, you can explore the entire ship and the museum on board free of charge. You can also enjoy a picnic on the pool deck of the CAP SAN DIEGO. The pool deck is on the very top deck of the CAP SAN DIEGO (if you see a real pool, you are in the right place – though swimming in it is unfortunately not allowed). There are plenty of tables and chairs around the pool. The area is outdoors but covered, so it can be used from spring to autumn even in bad weather.

Duration

The escape room takes about 1 to 1.25 hours. Plan 1.5 hours for the tour and another hour for the picnic. All in all, you should expect to spend up to 4 hours aboard.

Cost

The escape room costs €35 per person with a minimum of 5 and a maximum of 7 people per room (incl. VAT). The ship tour and use of the pool deck are free for our guests.

Good to know

Frequently Asked Questions

Which adventure suits us best?

All our escape rooms on the CAP SAN DIEGO have the same difficulty level and are just as suitable for adults as for children and teenagers. So the different age recommendations have nothing to do with difficulty. The reason is a different one: “The Forbidden Game” is a spooky room where you get a proper scare now and then — which is why we recommend a minimum age of 14 there. “The Master of Time” and “The Golden Skull” are suitable from age 8. If you would rather move around the whole ship than solve puzzles in an escape room, book the scavenger hunt “The Forgotten Treasure” (from age 10).

Can we come with younger children too?

You should not bring children up to 3 years old to play: all the rooms are very dark, there are loud sound effects, and you cannot carry a child the whole time during the game.

What does the escape room cost for a family?

As a combined ticket together with the ship tour, the escape room costs €175 for 2 to 5 people, €210 for 6 people and €245 for 7 people. So a family of four pays €175 in total, which is €43.75 per person.

What does the scavenger hunt cost?

The scavenger hunt costs €17 per person. You can use the pool deck for your picnic free of charge.

How many people can play together?

In one escape room you play with up to 7 people, and the same goes for the scavenger hunt. If there are more of you, simply book several escape rooms side by side.

Is the ship tour included in the price?

Yes. The combined ticket for the escape room includes a tour of the entire ship and the museum on board. The pool deck does not cost anything extra either.

How long are we on board?

For the escape room with tour and picnic, plan up to 4 hours — the room itself takes about 1 to 1.25 hours. For the scavenger hunt with picnic, around 2.5 hours is enough.

How do we book?

Right here on this page. Just pick your preferred date in the calendar further down and book online.

What do we need for the scavenger hunt?

At least one mobile phone in the group. Everything else — maps, items and clues — you get on site from our game masters.

Can we picnic somewhere?

Yes! On the covered pool deck of the CAP SAN DIEGO you can picnic with food and drinks you bring along – from spring to autumn, even in bad weather. You do not need to let us know in advance if you want to use the pool deck, and you do not need to reserve it either. There is always enough room for everyone. Do not worry.

When should we be there?

Please come aboard 10 minutes before your appointment. That leaves enough time to lock away your things and hear the introduction.

Can we play in English too?

Yes. All escape rooms can also be played in English; so can the scavenger hunt on the Rickmer Rickmers, while the one on the CAP San Diego is only in German. You choose the language when booking, and it can still be changed on site.

Get a mysterious machine runningGet a mysterious machine running

On the CAP SAN DIEGO, a strange story has been told for decades.

Somewhere on board, a brilliant inventor is said to have lived and worked – a man everyone simply called the “Master of Time”. Shortly before the ship set off on its last great voyage, he vanished without a trace. All that remained was a locked door.

No one has ever been able to open it. And this is exactly where your adventure begins.

Gain access to a secret part of the ship. Discover a place full of hiding spots, adventurous puzzles and hidden traces. And unravel the secret that the Master of Time left behind for us.

With your ticket you can also tour the CAP SAN DIEGO free of charge before or after your game (between 10:00 and 18:00). If you play later in the day, we will give you free tickets for the museum.

The moon hangs high in the sky as you sneak, on your journey through South America, to a long-abandoned excavation site. For years the finest researchers searched here for the golden skull of the last Maya ruler – without success. You are in luck, and the archaeologists' huts are still standing. You open one of the rickety wooden doors and step into the dark hut.
You are on your own, and soon you make an astonishing discovery that changes everything – the adventure begins.

With your ticket you can also tour the CAP SAN DIEGO free of charge before or after your game (between 10:00 and 18:00). If you play later in the day, we will give you free tickets for the museum.

Play for your lives

Something knocks, something pounds, something calls out to you. And before you know it, you have broken into the old villa that has stood abandoned on the edge of town for years. You follow the eerie sounds up to the attic of the old house and then – silence. Before you stands a mysterious game. It draws you under its spell and you begin to play.

But after the very first move, you realise this is no ordinary game, but a very dangerous one. It takes you on a magical journey – and if you do not finish the game in time, this journey will be your last. Trembling, you dare to make the next move…

With your ticket you can also tour the CAP SAN DIEGO free of charge before or after your game (between 10:00 and 18:00). If you play later in the day, we will give you free tickets for the museum.

The Forgotten Treasure

During renovation work, a mysterious old document was found beneath the old planks, and it is up to you to examine it closely. It takes you on a journey across the ship, where puzzles must be solved, your wits must be used and true teamwork must be proven. Only those who can solve every puzzle are worthy of the treasure.

Take part in a scavenger hunt (NOTE: a treasure hunt, not an escape room) across the entire CAP SAN DIEGO.

Note: This is NOT an escape room, but a treasure hunt played in small groups of 2 to 7 people competing against each other across the entire ship! In total, 42 people can play at the same time. Depending on how thoroughly you explore the ship during the scavenger hunt, you should plan between 80-100 minutes.

You need a mobile phone for the scavenger hunt.

The scavenger hunt can only be played in German.
